The problem faced by this site is precisely an important issue we are concerned about, namely the interpersonal relationships and loneliness leading to death among the elderly in modern society. Based on this issue, we have redesigned the Yongle Market on Guohua Street and planned to integrate the functions of the market and residences.
Firstly, we conducted research on several old urban buildings, focusing on exploring the situation of elderly people living alone. Revitalizing the Silent Old Market In the Yongle Market in the old city area of Tainan, we discovered a special situation. The public market on the first floor facing the roadway is lively and bustling, but when entering the interior and the second floor, it forms a huge gap in atmosphere compared to the external market street. Only a few elderly individuals live here, and the entire second floor seems like an abandoned gathering place for lonely elderly people in the city.
