The chair I designed follows this logic. It embodies the idea of “双” a twin form that, when pulled apart, transforms instantly into a table. The two exist in mutual support, each enabling the other, allowing an immediate passage from one condition to the next.
The two elements are interdependent, mutually empowering, and enable immediate shifts between states. In a sense, it mirrors what I pursue in architecture—a transformation across thresholds.
Here, however, the scale is more intimate: two people, two chairs, and a table; or simply two people and two chairs.
Two IKEA chairs are bisected and recombined around a concealed substructure. The added timber frame is indispensable: without it, the pieces won’t hold. Function toggles in real time—the chairs become the table, and the table remains two chairs.
